Current Collegian Scholarship

This is a $500 scholarship.  It is meant to go toward tuition or any other school related expenses (books, housing, fees, etc.). The recipient will be selected by the NWLA SHRM Board of Directors. 

Selection Criteria

• GPA of 3.0 or greater in their major of Management
• Overall GPA of 2.5 or greater
• Earned 12 hours or more of college level credit
• Current enrollment in community college or university with business or HR degree focus
• Unofficial transcript must be submitted
• 400-500 Word Essay
• Minimum of 4 hours of volunteer/community service work – MUST present signed letter as proof

Essay Question

The essay question is different each year and will be determined by the committee before posting it to the website.

2020/2021 Essay Topic Options:  

1. In situations similar to the current COVID-19 pandemic, what HR functions must adapt- talent acquisition and development, discipline, benefits and compensation? What challenges does HR face working in a remote work environment?

2. Describe a Human Resource professional’s role in a small organization versus a large organization.

3. What trends do you predict will shape Human Resource departments over the next 5 years?

Essay Due Date – March 26, 2021

Disclaimer: This scholarship may not be given each year.  In order for this scholarship to be given, the NWLA SHRM Board of Directors must receive more than 2 scholarship entries, and the essay must:

• Stay on topic
• Keep to 400-500 words or less
• Have an Introduction, body, and coherent conclusion.
• Use appropriate grammar
